Teach me to write
August 18th, 2007 | by tk2 |Remember back in time when I decided to create my first blog, hoping I could improve my English. Starting on that day, I had spent most of my free time reading and publishing post until it has become one of my life routine.
The problem is, not all bloggers can write well and use the correct grammar, including myself. I have to admit that. By reading that kind of writing, it will just poison your mind and damage you English skills.
Sometimes I can’t keep myself from laughing when reading blog with poor grammar. Did they just copy and paste the article to Google translator? I wonder if my readers think the same way on me.
Now I’ll tell you my lame technique that I’ve been using for a long period of time. Every time I write a new post, I’ll reread it for a few times, paste it in MS word and scan for spelling errors. I’ll use Google to make sure that I’m using the accurate words or phrases. My electronic dictionary and online Thesaurus are also come in handy.
I know that some readers don’t even care about grammar errors as they only interested with the content. For me, both are important because the way you write shows the way you think. Plus, if you don’t know how to write well, you might mislead the readers with the wrong ideas.
Care to share your writing technique?

I used to write yucky Moffatts fanfics that run along these lines.. (oh this is too embarrassing to share tapi takpe, educational purposes)
“That’s Denise. She’s working at my cafe now” Scott explained and I nodded. Scott had his own cafe, not the eating cafe. Cyber cafe. ..”
“She’s currently working at a record company or something. She’s cool, and sweet. Sometimes, I feel awkward to be around her. She got this some ‘thing’. Anyway, Sherry is currently the love of Scott’s life and he’s planning to marry her.”
But now my writing has ‘improved’ a little bit and I’m producing stuffs like this
“He realized it too late. It’s true that everyone who made mistakes only wished they could turn back time, but that could never happen – they knew time could never be reversed, so why do they wish for it? For all the mistakes and wrongs they’ve done, all they wanted was a second chance? Or just to make themselves feel better that for all the wrongs they’ve done, they finally realized they shouldn’t have?”
“If there’s one thing she wished would disappear tonight, it’s that requiem. It’s been buzzing in her head all day like a deafening silence, beating every inch of her senses.”
Maybe takde banyak difference sangat but I liked the way I’ve improved over the years - and I wish I can be a way better writer next time - grammatically, conceptually and vocabulari-ly (ok that isnt a valid word haha!)
How I learnt to write better? Pretty much the same things you did - Microsoft Word, reading people’s stuff untuk tengok grammar and cara dieorg construct ayat. And most importantly, song lyrics. hahaha! Especially in pronunciation, songs really help man.
Oh, and thanks for having this spell checker kat comment box! I LOVE IT!
